ACNL 2014 Challenge — January 2014!

Basically, I’m really terrible at remembering to keep up-to-date with games like AC. I go through a period of about 3 months where I play the game solidly, spending copious amounts of time each day on the game. But then, as if by magic, I’ve forgotten all about my pretty much perfect town and have moved on to something new…

So, as my one New Year’s Resolution, I’ve decided to attempt to play the game every single day for a whole year, starting on 1st January 2014, and ending 31st December 2014. I was given an EU 3DS XL as a Christmas gift and got myself a copy of ACNL to begin my journey.

This isn’t my first foray into the world of ACNL, I’d previously played the Japanese version and you can read about my exploits in Inuno Town, here.

Mayor: Rinoa.

note: Yes, this is a blatant FFVIII reference, hehe. Big Rinoa fan right here, yup. Don’t judge me!

Visiting Disneyland Paris – February 2014

Last week, I went to Disneyland Paris for my birthday — it was amazing!

すすきの氷の祭典 Susukino Ice Festival 2013

This was part of “さっぽろ雪まつり” (Sapporo’s Snow Festival) in February 2013. It’s in a part of Sapporo city called Susukino, a night-life district, and they hold an Ice Sculpture festival at the same time as the main Sapporo Snow Festival.

The fish, encased in ice, looked as if they were swimming. I loved this experience, it was a perfect Birthday treat for me.

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate Heading To The West In 2015

I’m so excited about this. I’ve been playing Munter (the nickname my partner and I gave it.. Monster and Hunter smashed together!) since 2009 and my partner and I have spent almost a 1000 hours playing 2ndG and the Japanese Portable 3rd, both on the PSP.
In fact, my partner has been reluctant to buy a 3DS but with this announcement he’s changed his mind! Mwahaha~ Nice one, Capcom! Can’t wait!

My Nintendo News

Capcom has today confirmed that Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate for Nintendo 3DS will be heading to the west sometime in early 2015. A lot of fans have been clamouring for the game to come to the United States and Europe, so it’s great news that it’s finally coming.

Thanks to everyone who sent this in.

Disney Magical World won’t give you bed head hair.

In Disney Magical World, it really doesn’t matter if you don’t play for a week or two. Heck, it doesn’t even matter if you don’t play for over a month.

It’s different from AC in that it doesn’t penalise you for missing time in-game. I once went without even popping my head in for over a month and it didn’t make any difference — the characters were all still happy to see me, my cafe (despite having sold out of food and therefore not operating..) wasn’t boarded up with a “for sale” sign on the door… it was completely fine.

Sure, if you miss a few weeks during one of the events, there will be less chance to complete a special event Cafe set in the month or so that the event is active but other than that, there isn’t any negatives, really.

It’s a really chillax, super adorable game that loves you even if you don’t call back.. for a month, or so. And, the best part? No cockroaches or awful hair!

note: This is from my experience playing the Japanese version of the game and the final NA version might differ from the Japanese version. Thank you!

This time last year..

At Mount Fuji, January 2013.

I had just arrived in Japan with my partner and a few of our friends where we would spend three months of amazing experiences in the land of the rising sun!

Aaah~ I miss it!

Disney Magical World Info!

Or “Disney Magical World”!

This is a guide about what we might expect from the upcoming title “Disney Magical World” coming out in NA in April! I’m using my experience with the Japanese version of the game to give an insight into how the game works and what kind of things you can expect from the title.

I’m a huge fan of Disney. Like on a super geeky level. I visit Disneyland Paris frequently and, when I lived in Japan for a year, I went to Tokyo Disney Resort over 80 times. Yep, that kind of geeky! I just can’t help it — I love Disney and always have! It’s such an awesome form of escapism. Another favourite form of escapism for me is gaming. So, when I found out that they were releasing a game that pretty much combines two of my favourite past-times, I was pretty stoked.

In fact, it’s not the first time I’ve played some form of this game. It actually originates from Disney Japan’s web site and some of the games they have on there.. like site based games. It’s still very popular now, it’s basically very similar to Disney Magical World but on the internet. It’s here if you’re interested and I’ve even written a guide to creating a character on an old blog of mine if you’re so inclined!

So yes, history lesson over. I’d basically played the site based game, known in Japan as Disney Magic Castle Online for a few years before I found out they were releasing a 3DS version in the summer of 2013. I even bought a 3DS for this title — yep, the sole reason I bought a 3DS was NOT for Animal Crossing New Leaf, it was for this game!

The game is essentially in a similar style of AC but it has a wider range of things you can do, particularly in the fact that there’s several other “worlds” you can visit via shiny portal type things. You are based in what is known as “Castle Town” in the Japanese version and the other worlds are accessible from there.

This is also where you’ll find most of the classic Disney characters such as Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Daisy Duck, Donald Duck, Chip and Dale, Goofy, Pluto etc.. It’s where your Cafe is located and you basically live on top of your cafe in a nice room which you can freely decorate similar to AC.
